All Emergency Kits SHOULD NOT Look Identical

I've been thinking a lot about integrity lately - specifically how I confuse it with perfectionism.
I'll avoid starting something because I don't have the "right" resources yet. Or I'll push myself past my actual capacity because I think that's what commitment should look like. But overstepping my own limits to care for others? That's not integrity. That's just me abandoning my self-care.
Nature doesn't work like this.
Trees don't aspire for a perfect "look". They work within the bounds of the resources available to them and are all unique looking because of it ... I'm learning to do the same.
Your kit doesn't need to be perfect either.
Many folks don't start a kit because they would rather not make one than make one that falls short of the standard they have seen on official lists, ads, and trainings. People get stuck before they even start because they think a "real" kit means buying a flat of bottled water, a fancy first aid kit, freeze-dried meals, a generator, etc.
But what if you can't afford that?
Or you don't have a car to transport it home?
Or you're unable to carry a packed emergency kit?
Perfectionism stops us from preparing at all.
But we can care for ourselves and others even if all we have is a starter kit.
As your capacity and resources grow, your kit will too. But waiting until you can do it "perfectly" means you're not prepared at all.
We'll build kits with what you already have - no shopping required. This workshop is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and designed for real life (not prepper fantasy land). We will be using an official 72hr Emergency Kit list and adapt the listed items for what we have or can access - knowing that it can be updated later on. If you already have a kit this is an opportunity for you to expand it with items in your home - maybe your family has grown, maybe items have expired, or maybe your capacities/abilities have changed.
We'll talk about:
-What preparedness looks like when you're disabled, low-income, or living in an intergenerational household
-How culture and context shape what "essential" means for you
-Why community care is just as essential as a fully stocked kit
