“Every crisis, actual or impending, needs to be viewed as an opportunity to bring about profound changes in our society (...)
by creating images and stories of the future that help us imagine and create alternatives to the existing system.”
- Grace Lee Boggs
Hi,
I am Daniela!
(she/they)
I work as a coach and facilitator,
. . . but I am really that aunty who has a stocked closet for any kind of learning or creative emergency - as well as any ACTUAL emergency, of course!
Being an eldest daughter in a Latinx family meant I grew up as a caregiver and educator - who later took an interest in how cultures develop and what colonization has to do with it.
Being an immigrant, (from a place where gas, electricity and running water weren't always available), meant we were always "prepared for emergencies" - even though we didn't see them as emergencies.
Being a mental health worker meant I acquired the mental and emotional tools as well as built the resilience I needed to go from crisis to crisis - all day.
Being a care-based community builder means that I am always learning and practicing personal, collective, and land-based change inclusive in communities.
Being an artist means I get really creative when teaching and brainstorming on emergency preparedness and disaster responses.
I practice emergency preparedness because I believe equitable and sustainable futures (AKA liberatory futures) are possible.
Are you prepared for an emergency?
If you are thinking preparing for an emergency is too expensive, too overwhelming, or you just don't know where to start...
. . . or if you are wondering how to talk to your family and friends about climate change, what you can do about climate change, or why climate change is happening...
I help you start inclusive emergency preparedness by:
guiding you to take stock of what you already have (I promise it is more than you think it is!) so that you pack an emergency kit and make an emergency plan specific to your needs and abilities.
providing mental and emotional tools and exercises so that you understand how you might respond in an emergency, what how systems of oppression created this crisis, and how you are uniquely positioned to respond.
supporting you to build relationships in your community and understand your power and privilege, so that you can collaborate even in high stress situations.
...so that you, and your community can build care-based futures on this planet.
Half of North Americans have an emergency kit,
yet only 11% of Canadians and
37% of Americans have emergency plans.
Have you been thinking of starting your emergency preparedness kit but never get around to it?
I help you prepare to prepare.
Preparing for unprecedented times can be overwhelming and it may be difficult to know where to start
As a trauma informed facilitator I help you manage feelings like overwhelm in preparing for emergencies so that you have the supplies AND the skills you need to support your physical, emotional, and mental wellness during emergencies.
In so-called Canada, 27% of people over the age of 15 identify as having at least one disability.
Feel confident in preparing for yourself and your diverse community.
I help you leverage your strengths in your emergency preparedness.
Our current social systems focus on what we don't have, leaving us feeling like we are not enough and creating the consumer culture that has led to the climate emergency we now have.
As an intersectional facilitator I help you understand intersectional care based culture as an alternative to consumer culture and systems of oppression, because the end goal is not just to survive the climate emergency, it is to contribute to a thriving planet.
In a study about climate change anxiety, 78% of young Canadians say that the climate emergency impacts their mental health,
AND 71% of them believe that together we can do something to address the climate emergency.
Inclusive emergency preparedness extends beyond just surviving an emergency or disaster.
It's an opportunity to imagine and create care-based Liberatory futures. that are equitable and land-based.
It's about fostering an environment for learning and practicing anti-oppression, specifically where it intersects with the climate emergency.

A few of the folks from my community who keep me grounded, thinking collaboratively, provide support, and bring joy into my life as we work together towards figuring out how to build care-based Liberatory Futures.
